The last row matters: cards that overlap do not add chances. Coverage of different numbers is what counts.
The One-Away Illusion, Worked Through
Being one number away feels close. Here is how likely that single number is to arrive within the next few calls, still with 45 balls remaining.
- Within 1 call: 1 ÷ 45 = 2.2%
- Within 5 calls: 5 ÷ 45 = 11.1%
- Within 10 calls: 10 ÷ 45 = 22.2%
- Within 20 calls: 20 ÷ 45 = 44.4%
The ball you need is equally likely to sit in any position among the remaining 45, which is why the chance grows in a straight line. And in a busy room, another player often completes the pattern before your number comes up at all.
Why Hot and Cold Numbers Do Not Exist
Suppose 7 has not been called in the last ten rounds. On a 75-ball card, any specific number appears in a given full round of 40 calls with a chance of 40 ÷ 75 = 53.3%, so it misses 46.7% of the time. Missing ten rounds in a row happens with probability 0.467 multiplied by itself ten times, about 0.05%. Rare, but across 75 numbers and thousands of rounds, streaks like that are expected. When round eleven starts, 7 is exactly as likely as every other ball.
